Why people get oily hair
By Andy Grant
Hair becomes greasy because of the accumulation of the natural secretion (grease or sebum) from glands in the scalp which are known as sebaceous glands. The sebum passes into the hair follicle and propagates upwards and over the hair shaft and is not soaked up into it. So the texture of hair makes a difference in that an oil wicks onto fine, straight hair very quickly but wiry hair doesn't look greasy. How much of the grease you have will impact the look and feel of your hair. At particular phases of your life, like puberty, sebum is manufactured in higher quantities because of greater levels of male hormones. At such times the hair may get more greasy and necessitate you to wash it a great deal more. Poor removing of the grease will make this problem more intense. It matters not what length your hair is, the quantity of grease produced by scalp remains the same. If you have very short hair then it will have lesser area over which to spread the grease, so greasiness can be specially difficult to deal with in case of short hair. The other explanation for greasy look could be having excessive hair. The finer your hair, the more hair there is per square inch of the scalp. And each hair shaft will have sebum producing sebaceous glands at its foundation. With more hair there is more oil glands, and more oil as a final result. People with fine hair will have more sebaceous glands on their scalps. Blonds with silk like fine hair are given to have the most detrimental troubles with greasiness. On the other hand redheads, who have less hair follicles per square inch hardly ever have oily hair. Less than sufficient shampooing may lead to a build-up of grease and material - dust, dirt and bacteria - on the hair. Perspiration on top of grease might lead to lank strands of hair which most definitely don't look satisfying. You can't prohibit the glands from making grease. Grease production is impacted by nutrition, and other factors that we can deal with like extreme heat and dampness which can increase oil production. So how can we stop, put a stop to, be totally free of or even perhaps heal greasy hair? The remedy is to wash it as often as necessary to keep it fresh and in good condition. Washing hair too frequently may stimulate the grease output. The most beneficial shampoos for oily hair are particularly produced to take out natural grease without doing any damage to the hair shaft. |
